Discover Haiga: My Exhibit Travels Again

Charlotte Digregorio's Writer's Blog

Dear Readers and Followers:

As some of you know, I have a haiga exhibit that circulates 365 days a year. Sometimes I divide up the exhibit and have it running at two places at once.

Some of you are wondering “What is haiga?” It is haiku combined with an art medium of one’s choosing. As I always tell people, you can even combine haiku or (senryu) with embroidery.

Currently, I have an exhibit at Fremont Public Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Rd., in Mundelein, IL, (a Chicago suburb.) Other venues I’ve exhibited at include corporate buildings, convention centers, hospitals, and galleries.

I have nineteen pieces of haiga and haiku. I say haiku, too, as a few pieces stand on their own with haiku penned with illustrative calligraphy that accents its theme. In order to have an exhibit, of course, all pieces must be professionally framed.

Many of my pieces were gifted…

Shadow Play ~ haiku sequence by Tim Gardiner & Maria Laura Valente ~ Scryptic, issue 1.4

Shadow Play
A haiku sequence based on Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho’s suggestions

headlight rain
no sign of a vacancy
on the old road

endless highway
the past looms large
in the drive mirror

filling
the long hours
taxidermist

careless talk
the caged bird sings
with a stutter

spyhole
this desire is only
one-way

mirror mirror
mother’s glare
next to his sneer

maternal envy
shower curtain shadow
on perfect skin

eyes wide open
screams reflect
off his knife

stone cold
her depression
on the bed

morning after
a newspaper
left unread

hilltop house
fresh blood stains
well-worn steps

dark lake
the death rattle
of her car

fruit cellar
flies circle around
the light bulb

final judgement
the shadow play
in mother’s eyes
